RAF Leeming RAFA 1000 Mile Cycle Challenge

During 7-16 Jun 2011, a team of 10 personnel from RAF Leeming will attempt a 1000 Mile Cycle Challenge in aid of the Royal Air Forces Association. The route is longer than riding from Land’s End to John O’Groats and will start and finish at RAF Leeming, taking in RAF Boulmer, Edinburgh, RAF Leuchars, RAF Lossiemouth, Fort William, Faslane, Gretna Green and RAFA Regional HQ at Leyland. Make no mistake, this is a serious challenge. The riding team will need to ride an average of 100 miles per day for 10 consecutive days. To put that into perspective, that is the same as riding from the outskirts of London to Birmingham everyday for 10 days.
Participating personnel come from a wide cross-section at RAF Leeming, but all of them are active supporters of RAFA. Some 6 months of training will have been completed prior to the start of the challenge.
The plan is to raise £10,000 and after a good start to fundraising over the last few months, we hope to continue the momentum and reach our target.
